Behind Local News, the new website with the latest on UK local journalism, is to host a digital regional journalism conference next month.<\/p>\n
The conference, at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on 23 May, will look at local journalism in the digital environment and feature a keynote speech by Nic Newman from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.<\/p>\n
Sessions will be held on data journalism and social media, with presentations given by news media industry speakers including Trinity Mirror Regionals editor in chief (digital) Alison Gow and Luke Bailey, of the i.<\/p>\n
Senior editorial figures from Trinity Mirror, Johnston Press, Newsquest, Archant and KM Group came together to launch Behind Local News last month, with the latest insight on local journalism in the UK. <\/p>\n
Recent articles on the website have included an in-depth series on data journalism, tips on the NQJ senior exams, and a preview of the industry’s Local Newspaper Week campaign which champions local journalism. <\/p>\n
Trinity Mirror digital editorial strategy director David Higgerson, said: “There is a positive story to tell within regional media – and that’s the growing audiences and revenue we are seeing online.<\/p>\n
“The conference will focus on issues surrounding digital journalism, how we connect more effectively with local readers, and how we keep innovating to keep readers interested. <\/p>\n
“We don’t expect to come away with all the answers but it’s a chance for local journalists, to come together to look at some of key themes and industry trends in recent years, and share best practise.”<\/p>\n
Organisations on the conference schedule include Google, the BBC, Chartbeat, the Centre for Community Journalism and Twitter. <\/p>\n
