{"id":1646,"date":"2017-11-16T17:30:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-16T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsmediauk.org\/david-newell-presented-with-obe-by-prince-william\/"},"modified":"2024-05-03T09:53:11","modified_gmt":"2024-05-03T08:53:11","slug":"david-newell-presented-with-obe-by-prince-william","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsmediauk.org\/blog\/2017\/11\/16\/david-newell-presented-with-obe-by-prince-william\/","title":{"rendered":"David Newell Presented With OBE By Prince William"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>News Media Association chief executive David Newell has been presented with an OBE for services to the newspaper and publishing industry by Prince William.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Newell, who was awarded the honour in the Queen&rsquo;s Birthday Honours List earlier this year, attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday with his wife Cora and daughter Rebecca.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Newell became director of the Newspaper Society, the regional newspaper association, in 1997 and then additionally director of the Newspaper Publishers Association, the national newspaper association, in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>He oversaw the two organisations merge in 2014 to create the NMA and provide a united voice for the news media industry, defending and promoting press freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Newell sits on industry boards including the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, Advertising Standards Board of Finance, Advertising Association, News Media Europe.<\/p>\n<p>A solicitor by training, Mr Newell previously was an academic at the University of Leicester and a legal advisor.
